Compassion As Medicine

Gurpreet is a palliative medicine physician, educator, healthcare, and social entrepreneur healing the world, one act of kindness at a time. She developed Compassion As Medicine (CAM), an evidence-based compassion-informed, inclusive, and non-judgmental approach to promoting healing – alleviating the suffering caused by illness, loss of autonomy, isolation, and inequity, improving chronic disease outcomes and quality of life. As a response, she launched Home Based Medicine, a house call program guided by Applied Compassion. The service provides primary care directly to patients with limited mobility through home visits. The application of CAM also equips physicians with tools to embody compassionate bedside practices and deliver compassion-informed remedies across the healthcare continuum.

Home Based Medicine

In the next decade, despite advances in technology and medicine, disability and death rates in the US and the 1.3 trillion dollar financial burden due to chronic conditions are expected to rise. HBM provides evidence-based, goal-concordant compassionate primary care in the home. Inclusive practices promote healing, alleviate the suffering caused by illness, loss of autonomy, isolation, and inequity, and improve chronic disease outcomes and quality of life across the healthcare continuum.
